3. A Dirty or Blocked Outdoor Condenser

The outdoor unit releases the heat your AC pulls from inside your home. Over time, grass clippings, leaves, and other debris can build up around it, restricting airflow and reducing the system’s ability to transfer heat.

Keep the area around the outdoor unit clear of debris and vegetation but leave cleaning of the internal components or condenser coil to an HVAC professional to avoid damaging the equipment.

4. A Frozen Evaporator Coil

Ice on your AC might seem like a sign it’s working overtime, but it usually signals a problem. The evaporator coil can freeze when something interferes with normal heat transfer restricted airflow, a dirty filter, blower issues, or refrigerant problems are common culprits.

Signs of a frozen system include:

  • Weak airflow from the vents
  • Reduced cooling
